As I sat with my journal to begin to write in it as I do each morning, I was struggling to see what I was writing. The lamp that was behind me was casting shadows on my page and thus obscuring the words on the page. I gave up trying to see through the shadows and got up and put the main living room light on which solved the problem and then I could see very clearly the words on the page.
A little later that morning it was still dark outside and I needed to unlock the back gate so that I could put the bin out. I fumbled in the dark trying to remove the lock cover to be able to insert the key. After several attempts I gave up and decided to wait until it was light. When the morning became lighter it was so much easier to complete the task and I am so glad I did not continue to try to do it in the dark.
Moving from the shadows and positioning ourselves in the light. Seeking the light. Finding the light. Following the light.
For the first time I did not put my Christmas tree up until Boxing day. We moved house just before Christmas and we were surrounded by boxes and it felt like total chaos. I could have not bothered with the tree. The Christmas tree holds precious memories as I place each of the decorations on the tree. I have lots of ornaments that I have accumulated over the years so at 2am Boxing day morning I was decorating the tree. I love to look at the tree with the star on the top and all the sparkling lights.:
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the ‘Light of the World’ John 8:12
There are two types of light. Physical and spiritual. We need physical light for life. Plants need light to live and they are drawn to the light. Plants can live for a short time without light but they would not survive in continuous darkness. Spiritual light is also required for life. Regardless of a person’s belief we are drawn to spiritual light which may feel like kindness, goodness, and love. I think that no matter what you believe you will be drawn towards wanting to be loved. Just like plants we human beings cannot survive in total darkness.
I believe that Jesus is the Spiritual Light. The Bible tells us that Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
I believe we can find Hope in Jesus.
Why do I believe that? What is so special about Jesus?
The Bible tells us:
For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16
All things come through Jesus, all things are for Jesus, He is the architect and beneficiary of it all. This is the Jesus I put my hope in and follow.
The Bible tells us:
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which you set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:9
Sometimes I feel like my world has gone dark. I suffer with anxiety and tiredness and I exhaust myself from trying too hard. Sadness from grieving lost loved ones and feeling compassion for others often make me feel down and I plummet into a dark place.
I found this song and the words spoke right into the dark place that I found myself in.
Anxious Heart by Jeremy Camp
Locked up and I’m so in my head
Heart starts racing and I can’t slow it down
Hands shaking and I’m losing my breath
Paralyzed with a mind spinning out
My strength has grown weak
No word left to speak
I fell on my knees
‘Cause you know what I need
You are the light when my world goes dark
You hold me together when I’m torn apart
And when my thoughts have run away too far
You’re the calm for my anxious heart
Wrapped up in the arms of Your Love
Stilled by the silence above all the noise
Burden’s light when You’re lifting it up
Fear is terrified by the sound of Your voice
‘Cause You don’t grow weak
Your word is peace
I fall to my knees
‘Cause you know what I need
You are the light when my world goes dark
You hold me together when I’m torn apart
And when my thought have run away too far
You’re the calm for my anxious heart
You know everything about me
You come and surround me
And everything that holds my soul
Falling is surrender, learning to remember
You’re the One who’s in control
You are the light when my world goes dark
You hold me together when I’m torn apart
And when my thoughts have run way too far
You’re the calm for my anxious heart
You are the life when my breath is gone
You’re the hope when I’m stuck in the storm
And I know this is still who You are
You’re the calm for my anxious heart
You’re the calm for my anxious heart
You’re the calm for my anxious heart
At Christmas time we remember and celebrate Jesus born as a baby. Jesus came to earth to bring light into the world. He came to save us. Jesus means God saves. God sent His son Jesus to save us.
If you do not know Jesus as your Saviour and you want to know Jesus as your Saviour all you need to do is ask Him to come into your heart and He will.
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
God bless.
